How it works
- 1. Enter the pairs. For a seeded draw, list them strongest first.
- 2. Pick the format. One set, best of three or best of three with a match tie-break, and whether to play for third.
- 3. Make the bracket. Byes, round names and courts are set. The draw is saved and never reshuffled.
- 4. Confirm results. The winner moves into the next match. Share a live bracket by link, QR code or big screen.
- 5. Finish. Export results and matches as CSV, print the bracket, or run a rematch with the same teams.
Example: 5 teams, seeded
The bracket is filled to 8, so there are three byes. Seeds 1, 2 and 3 go straight to the semi-finals. Seeds 4 and 5 play the only first-round match, and the winner meets seed 1. Seed 2 meets seed 3 in the other semi-final. That is four matches in total, one fewer than the number of teams.
Rules used here
- One loss and you are out. The last team standing is the champion.
- Byes are not matches and never count as a win.
- Teams knocked out in the same round share their place.
- A walkover is recorded as a walkover, never as a made-up score.
The match format and third-place match are organiser choices, not one official rulebook. For other formats, see the guide to padel tournament formats, the Round Robin generator or the Americano generator.
Questions about knockout brackets
- How many teams can I enter?
- 2 to 32 fixed pairs on 1 to 8 courts. Any number works, not just 4, 8, 16 or 32. Every match knocks out one team, so N teams play N − 1 matches, plus the third-place match if you add one.
- How do byes work?
- When the number of teams isn't a power of two, the bracket is filled to the next one and the empty places are byes. A bye is not a match: the team goes straight into the second round with no score, no win and no court time. With 5 teams, for example, three teams get a bye and one first-round match is played.
- Random draw or seeded?
- A random draw is made once and saved, so reloading never reshuffles it. Seeded uses your entry order: team 1 is seed 1. Seeds 1 and 2 are placed in opposite halves and can only meet in the final, seeds 1 to 4 are in different quarters, and byes go to the highest seeds.
- What scores can I enter?
- One set, best of three full sets, or best of three with a match tie-break to 10 at one set all. A set ends 6–0 to 6–4, 7–5 or 7–6. Tied or impossible scores are rejected, and a match can only be scored once both teams are known. Nothing moves on until you press Confirm result.
- What if a pair can't play?
- Record a walkover. You pick the pair that can't play and confirm; the other pair advances. It is shown as a walkover, with no score and no games recorded.
- Can I correct a result?
- Yes. If the same team still wins, later matches stay as they are. If the winner changes or you clear the result, the generator lists every later match that would change, including matches already drawn but not scored, and asks before resetting them. Cancel leaves everything as it was. The other half of the bracket is never touched.
- Is there a third-place match?
- Only if you add one, and only with four or more teams so there are two semi-final losers. Without it, both semi-final losers share third place. Teams knocked out in the same round always share a place; no order is invented between them.
- How long will it take?
- The estimate counts court waves: each round is spread over your courts, and a round can only start once the matches feeding it are done. Byes take no court. The time is an estimate only; a set can run long.
